Carleton College is proud to announce the 2025 Paglia Post-Bac Research Fellowship. If you’re a graduating senior in a STEM field and ready to explore advanced research, this fellowship could be your path to a PhD and beyond.

International students are able to participate in the Fellowship as part of their OPT (optional practical training) F-1 visa extension. Graduating seniors from Carleton College majoring in STEM fields are eligible to apply. Applicants must plan to pursue a research-focused career (MD/PhD allowed, but not MD-only). They must graduate by June 2025 and start the fellowship by September 2025

Paglia Post-Bac Research Fellowship in USA Established in 1866, Carleton College is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the rural setting of the medium-sized town of Northfield (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Minnesota. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Higher Learning Commission, Carleton College is a small (uniRank enrollment range: 2,000-2,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities, including international students on F-1 OPT

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The fellowship is open to graduating seniors majoring in STEM disciplines represented on Carleton’s STEM Board

  • Admissible Criteria:

    • Must graduate by June 2025

    • Must begin the fellowship by September 2025

    • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a research-focused career (not clinical MD only; MD/PhD is acceptable)

    • Prior research experience or strong potential for research

    • Consultation with faculty and securing of a research placement at a US R1 university or similar institution

    • Submission of two recommendation letters (including one from a research supervisor or faculty member in major)

    • International students must participate under OPT regulations

    2. Research statement (maximum 750 words, citations excluded) that describes the proposed research you will do as a post-bac fellow (what will be undertaken? where and with whom – and why? what skills, techniques, experience will you gain through participation in the research project?);
    3. Personal statement (maximum 750 words) that describes how this opportunity will affect your career trajectory (what are your career plans? what factors in your background or experience – academic and personal – have shaped your decision and ability to pursue a STEM career? why is this opportunity a good next step for you? what will you gain from the particular placement, beyond what is described in your research statement?); and
    4. Transcript (please order an official e-version through the  Registrar’s Office).
