The Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a one-time merit-based entrance scholarship awarded to qualified students when they are offered admission to UBC.

Personal profile

In order to assess your preparedness for university, UBC will evaluate you on a broad range of criteria including your academic achievements and personal experiences. That’s where the Personal Profile section of UBC’s online application comes in.

Knowing more about you through your Personal Profile helps UBC determine whether you will flourish here – not just because of your grades, but also because of the experiences and ambition you bring with you.

The Personal Profile is required of all high school students applying to all UBC programs on the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. The Personal Profile is also required of all transfer applicants into the Bachelor of Commerce and Kinesiology programs on the Vancouver campus, and the Nursing program on the Okanagan campus.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for an OIS Award, you must

  • be new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school or post-secondary (university or college)
  • be an international student studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will affect your scholarship eligibility.)
  • demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and strong extra-curricular involvement
  • apply to UBC by January 15

Offered Benefits

OIS amounts range from $2,500 to $10,000 CAD.
