In line with OTARC’s commitment to fostering and empowering exceptional Autistic scholars and practitioners, we are pleased to announce the availability of the Olga Tennison Research Scholarship. This scholarship opportunity is designed for an Autistic candidate who demonstrates outstanding research potential and aims to pursue a graduate research degree at the renowned Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre at La Trobe University.

The educational fund is open to outstanding students who have a plan to undertake a PhD degree programme at the university.

OTARC PhD Scholarship For Autistic Scholars in Australia Established in 1964, La Trobe University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Melbourne (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Victoria. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, New Zealand Citizen
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with a focus on autism research aligned to one of OTARC’s four research program areas: Identification and Diagnosis, Supports and Practices for Daily Living, Health and Wellbeing, Educational and Vocational Engagement
  • Admissible Criteria: Applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents who identify as Autistic. They should meet the entrance requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy or be currently enrolled in the PhD program. Additionally, applicants should not be receiving another scholarship greater than 75 per cent of the stipend rate for the same purpose. Equity-based assessment of applications is also available.

Offered Benefits

  • A stipend for up to three and a half (3.5) years for a doctoral degree, valued at $33,500 per annum (2023 full-time rate)
  • Tuition fee scholarship for up to four years
  • Access to a support allowance of up to a maximum of $5,000 for the duration of the candidature
  • Additional funding opportunities for project-related costs and conference travel for candidates enrolled in the School of Psychology and Population Health
  • Generous leave allowances, as well as allowances to support relocation and production of the thesis
  • Opportunities to work with OTARC’s outstanding researchers and access to our suite of professional development programs.

Once in-principle agreement is secured, follow the steps to submit a full application for candidature and scholarship.   • Admission Requirements: Applicants must identify a potential principal supervisor based at OTARC and receive in-principle approval for their research project, aligning with the priority areas specified.
