Østfold University College is pleased to announce a PhD Position in My AI Co-worker for overseas students. This Doctoral Research Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for motivated candidates to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI, Participatory Design (PD), and Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW).

The purpose of this PhD position is to advance the understanding of human-AI collaboration by investigating how AI can be integrated as a co-worker in professional environments. It is open to candidates with a strong academic background in Computer Science, Interaction Design, or related fields, who are eager to engage in interdisciplinary research and contribute to the evolving field of AI within the context of CSCW. The program aims to explore how AI can be designed as a trusted co-worker in organizational settings, fostering collaboration between humans and technology.

Østfold University College (HiØ) is a forward-thinking institution located in Norway, with campuses in Halden and Fredrikstad. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All countries
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by Østfold University College, with a focus on Computer Science, Interaction Design, or closely related fields within the “Digitalisation and Society” Doctoral Programme.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Hold a completed master’s degree (or equivalent to 120 Norwegian credits) in Computer Science, Interaction Design, or a related field, with a grade of B or better on the master’s thesis (grade C may be considered if the research summary is of excellent quality). Candidates nearing completion of their master’s degree may apply, provided documentation is submitted upon completion.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience with Participatory Design or social research methods (e.g., interviews, observations).
  • Exhibit fluent oral and written communication skills in English (TOEFL min. score 90 or IELTS min. score 7.5 for non-EU/EEA candidates).
  • Possess Norwegian language proficiency at a minimum of level A2 (or equivalent in Danish/Swedish), or commit to completing Norwegian language training (15 ECTS credits) during the appointment if not already proficient.
  • Desirable qualifications include an average grade of B or better in the master’s degree, knowledge of CSCW, familiarity with Generative AI tools, prior publications in relevant fields, and relevant work/academic experience.
