The Orange TulipScholarshipprogramme(OTS) was launched by the Netherlands Education Support Office (Neso) China in 2008. The success of the programmerelies on the support from not only the Dutch academic sector, but also the Dutch business sector in China. The purpose of this initiative is to offer valuable study opportunities for Chinese young talents to study in the Netherlands through joint contributions from the Dutch higher education institutions and China-based Dutch companies.

In order to improve the competitive position of the Netherlands in the Chinese overseas education market, and promote the Netherlands as an ideal studying and working destination, Neso China intends to further expand the Orange TulipScholarshipProgramme in the coming years by involving more sponsors and increasing the number of study programmes. Dutch Higher Education institutions and companies are encouraged to provide contributions to this programme, as it will increase the opportunity to attract top Chinese students and future employees.

Eligibility Criteria

In general, students must meet the following basic criteria to apply for the OTS programme:

  • Candidates must be citizens of China and be residing in China

  • Candidates must have obtained a degree or diploma from a non Dutch university, and intend to pursue a Bachelor or Master’s degree in a Dutch university

  • Candidates have not studied or worked in the Netherlands

  • Candidates must be fluent in spoken and written English (Bachelor Degree Programme: Minimum 6.0 in IELTS, 80 in TOEFL-iBT; Master Degree Programme: Minimum 6.5 in IELTS, 92 in TOEFL-iBT)

  • Candidates must be currently engaged in an admission procedure or already admitted to a Dutch higher education institution

  • Candidates much have an average mark in his or her previous study programme of 75 or higher

Note: Satisfying the aforementioned requirements does not mean immediately that a student is qualified to apply for a particular scholarship. The OTS scholarshipprogramme covers a selected number of study programmes offered by the sponsors, and for each specific programme additional requirements may apply.

Offered Benefits

Value of the grant varies per grant provider. For the academic year 2010-2011, the overall value of the OTS was around 500,000 Euros. 50 excellent Chinese students can benefit from the OTS and obtain a bachelor or master´s degree in Dutch universities, financed by OTS sponsors.
