The Novo Nordisk Fonden is excited to open applications for the NNF Laureate Research Grant, designed to support outstanding biomedical researchers. This prestigious grant, worth up to DKK 50 million, aims to strengthen Danish biomedical research by fostering international collaborations.

Applicants must be established principal investigators with at least 7 years of independent research experience. They are required to work on-site at a Danish host institution for a minimum of 75% of a full-time position, with clinicians reducing clinical commitments to 25%. The grant is open to candidates of any nationality, but the recipient must establish a research group in Denmark within two years.Established in 1924, the Novo Nordisk Foundation is a prominent Danish enterprise foundation dedicated to philanthropic efforts aimed at improving human and planetary health. With a significant focus on medical research and innovation, the Foundation has awarded over DKK 9.1 billion (approximately $1.33 billion) in grants in 2023 alone, supporting a wide array of projects related to science, education, and social initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for research in the fields of Bioscience, Basic Biomedicine, Clinical and Translational Medicine, Endocrinology, and Metabolism.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Be a principal investigator with an independent research program that has been directed for 7 or more years.
    • If awarded, the recipient must work on-site at the Danish host institution for at least 75% of a full-time position. Clinical commitments, if applicable, must be reduced to 25% of a full-time position.
    • Must establish a principal research group in Denmark within two years of starting the grant.
    • Must not be a member of a Novo Nordisk Fonden expert review committee or an employee of the Novo Group of companies.
    • The host institution must be a recognized university, university hospital, public research institution, or a non-profit organization in Denmark.

Application Process

The application process consists of three stages:

  1. Stage I: Submit an initial application, including letters of support from the Danish host institution by 31 October 2024. Detailed guidelines can be found in the “Guidelines for applicants” document available on the Novo Nordisk Fonden website.
  2. Stage II: Up to three candidates will be invited to submit a full research proposal by 6 February 2025.
  3. Stage III: Final candidates will be interviewed on-site in March 2025.
