Northwestern Ontario & Simcoe County Citizenship Award at Lakehead University 2026-2027 for Bachelor Founded in 1965, Lakehead University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the rural setting of the large town of Thunder Bay (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Ontario. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Ontario, Lakehead University (LU) is a medium-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 8,000-8,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Lakehead University (LU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 70% average in Grade 12 U or M fall semester academic marks as of February 2026
  • Minimum 70% final average in Grade 12 U or M academic marks as of July 2026
  • Must be direct from high school (no previous post secondary studies)
  • Must be a citizen, permanent resident, or landed immigrant of Canada
  • Must plan to attend Lakehead University in the upcoming year on a full-time** basis
  • Must be eligible to receive funding and demonstrate financial need through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
  • Must be nominated by an eligible high school guidance department

Up to 2 awards valued at $15,000 ($3,750/year for 4 years)

Application Process

  • Eligible high school nominates one (1) student by January 15 annually
  • Eligible high school directs student to complete the "Supplemental Application".  Click here to download the Supplemental Application for 2026/2027 if you have been nominated by your high school.
  • Supplemental application package must be completed electronically in MS Word
