Northcote Postgraduate Scholarships for UK Students in Australia for PhD

To enable students ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom to undertake a higher degree at an Australian University, Britain – Australia Society has started the Northcote Postgraduate Scholarships for the academic year 2022-2023.

The scholarship is open to applications from all UK resident students undertaking postgraduate studies in an Australian university or college. The winning candidates will be provided economy class return airfares to Australia, a one-off payment of A$2,000 for relocating, payment of compulsory fees and scholastic charges at an Australian University, compulsory OSHC medical insurance and any applicable mandatory government Covid-19 hotel quarantine and testing costs up to a maximum of A$3,000. A 33,000 annual stipend is also included.

The members of the Britain-Australia Society are individuals and corporations who are aligned with and support that objective.

The Britain-Australia Society exists to promote and maintain the rich relationship between Australia and the United Kingdom. It is headquartered in Australia House in London and has branches in seven regions across the United Kingdom. The society works to connect its members across the United Kingdom through an active and varied events programme ranging from high-level networking opportunities in sought-after locations to briefings by leading experts on topical issues such as trade and defence policy.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: UK.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Applicants can apply for a MA or PhD degree programme in an Australian university.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must be residents in the UK (or one of its dependencies or territories).
  • The applicants must ascertain their own eligibility for a postgraduate programme (MA or PhD) in Australia at their chosen university.

  • One-off payment of A$2,000 for ‘establishment costs’
  • A generous living allowance up to A$33,000 per annum
  • Compulsory OSHC medical insurance and any applicable mandatory government Covid-19 hotel quarantine and testing costs up to a maximum of A$3,000

Application Process

  • How to Apply: The applicants must apply for admission to an Australian university or college of their choice. Then, they must complete a separate scholarship application form to be considered for the scholarship award.
  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • CV
  • Contact details of a referee
  • A statement from the applicant on the proposed course (1 or 2 pages)
  • A statement of why the study must be undertaken in Australia
  • Two references
  • Offer letter from the university
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must meet the entry requirements of the Australian university they wish to join. Typically, possession of a bachelor degree relevant to the applied postgraduate programme is expected.
  • Language Requirement: The applicants will be required to meet the English language proficiency needs of the university, if applicable. TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, etc are commonly accepted.
