NL Scholarships-Outgoing for International Students in Netherlands Established in 1575, Universiteit Leiden (Leiden University) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Leiden (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), South Holland. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): The Hague. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap, Nederland (Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Netherlands), Universiteit Leiden (LEI) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Universiteit Leiden (LEI) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 444 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All countries outside the EEA , including the UK and Switzerland (EEA = All EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Archaeology, Humanities, Medicine/LUMC, Governance and Global Affairs, Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Science, Interfacultair Centrum voor Lerarenopleiding, Onderwijsontwikkeling en Nascholing (ICLON), African Studies Centre, International Institute for Asian Studies
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • You must be registered on a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Leiden University.
  • Your study, internship or research activity abroad must be a recognised part of your study programme at Leiden University, for which you will receive a minimum of 10 study credits.
  • You must be selected for an exchange place, or your activity abroad must be approved by your study programme’s Board of Examiners.
  • Your activity abroad must take place outside the EEA.
  • Your study, internship or research abroad must be a minimum of 7 weeks and a maximum of 12 months in duration.
  • Your activity abroad must start between 1 June 2024 and 1 June 2025.

Offered Benefits

Leiden University will provide one-off payment of € 2,500 to the sucessful candidates for the academic session 2023/2024.

  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Copy of a valid passport or ID card
  • Copy of a Dutch residence permit (if applicable)
  • CV
  • Language proficiency (if applicable)
  • Copies of diplomas and transcripts
  • Letters of motivation (max one A4)
  • Letters of recommendation.
  • Admission Requirements: Students have to complete the  admission requirements of Leiden University.
  • Language Requirement: Students must verify their English proficiency by completing their  English proficiency requirements.
