Are you a Master’s, PhD, or postdoctoral researcher looking to expand your research horizons in Switzerland? Apply for the NCCR Automation Fellowship and join a leading research group for up to 6 months. Open to international students and researchers.

The fellowship is open to master’s students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers from outside Switzerland. Applicants must be actively enrolled or employed at their home institution throughout the fellowship and should not have previously studied or worked at the host institution in Switzerland. Their current research or study program must complement the work of the chosen host research group.The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is Switzerland’s leading organization for the promotion of scientific research. Funded by the federal government, the SNSF supports high-quality, innovative research across all academic disciplines—from the humanities and social sciences to natural and engineering sciences. Through competitive funding schemes, including fellowships, project grants, and research programs, the SNSF fosters academic excellence, international collaboration, and the development of young researchers in Switzerland and abroad.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities except Switzerland

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The fellowship supports research in automation and control systems, as offered by the affiliated research groups of NCCR Automation.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a current Master’s student, PhD candidate, or postdoctoral researcher.

    • Be engaged in an educational or research program that complements the host research group.

    • Remain enrolled or employed at their home institution during the fellowship.

    • For PhD/postdoc applicants: Salary must continue to be paid by the home institution.

    • Must not have studied or worked at the host institution in Switzerland before.

    • Must meet the specific admission requirements of the host institution.

Application Process

Applicants must submit their application via the online platform by 30 June 2025 . Required documents (PDF format) include:

  • CV (max. 2 pages) with list of publications (if applicable)

  • Motivation letter (Master’s students only, max. 2 pages)

  • Research proposal (PhD/postdoc, max. 2 pages, including research plan and timeline)

  • Letter of support from home institution and supervisor

  • University degree(s) and/or academic transcripts

  • Selection of up to three research topics and corresponding principal investigators (PIs)

  • Declaration of any income or scholarships during the fellowship.
