Natural or social science researchers who have recently earned a PhD degree with a background in conservation, species at risk, cultural monitoring, and working in true partnership with Indigenous communities are eligible to apply for this fellow position. International and domestic students can both apply and are considered for this $70,000 per year fellowship program. The winners will also be awarded a budget of $15,000 for annual travel and research.

  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Eligible scholars will be natural or social science researchers, who have received their PhD prior to the start of the fellowship. Applicants should propose to be based at a Canadian conservation or academic institution and conduct their research primarily in Canada. However, Canadian citizenship is not required – researchers from any country are eligible to apply. Applicants will identify a mentorship team of at least one academic and at least one conservation practitioner mentor. Applicants are encouraged to identify the mentor team early in their proposal to foster a meaningful collaboration.

Offered Benefits

The fellowship winners will be awarded 2 years of support with a $70,000/yr stipend and a $15,000 annual travel and research budget by the University of Calgary.
