Leopoldina Postdoc Scholarship

The programme is intended for outstanding junior post-doctoral scientists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland from the natural science- and medical disciplines who already have their own research profile. If selected, they have the opportunity to head their own projects at the most renowned international research institutions of their disciplines. German candidates are expected to opt for research facilities abroad. Austrian and Swiss scientists are only eligible for support, if they apply at a host institution in Germany. The programme's goal is for the scholars to return to their home countries after the completion of the scholarship and share the acquired knowledge at the local centres of research.

Eligibility Criteria

Talented young scientists working within the natural sciences, medicine, the history of science or any other disciplines represented by sections of the Academy may apply for funding. They must have completed their doctoral degree within the last seven years. Applicants should have excellent research skills, the ability to research independently, and outstanding academic achievements.

Offered Benefits

The funding comprises a personal, customised full grant. This includes a basic grant (in accordance with the provisions of the German Research Foundation (DFG) for postdoctoral/research grants), additional allowances if necessary (depending on marital status and host city) and a monthly allocation of EUR 103 for material and consumable expenses (travel costs, laboratory equipment etc.). Any costs that exceed these allowances should be listed and applied for separately within the application.
