The essay contest is aimed at spotting young talented students passionate about journalism and writing. It also invites young people to tell their own stories of Nigerian Independence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Nigeria.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Essay Contest in the field of journalism and writing.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible for the contest, applicants must have to meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • Open only to residents of the Republic of Nigeria who has reached 18 years of age as of the date of entry.
  • Only currently enrolled university students can participate in the Contest. Winners will be required to confirm their student status.
  • If you are under 18 years of age, you must have your parent’s or legal guardian’s permission prior to participating in the Contest, and by participating you represent that your parent or legal guardian has provided such permission and agreed to these Rules.
  • Directors, officers, contractors, and employees of Legit.ng or any of its affiliate companies and subsidiaries, and immediate families of each, as well as any other individual related to Legit.ng, are not eligible to enter the Contest.

Offered Benefits

Winners will get a prize of N115,000, N75,000, and N38,000 to invest in their studies and professional growth. They will have a chance to visit the Legit.ng office in Lagos, meet the team, and hold a conversation with Legit.ng’s Managing Director.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To become a part of the contest, all eligible applicants can submit their essays online on the official contest website.
  • Supporting Documents: Essay must be 400-1000 words in length, contain the main heading, and several subheadings. Each individual can submit a maximum of 1 essay and all essays must be submitted in .doc or .docx format. Only original, unique, and written from scratch essays will be considered.
  • Admission Requirements: Candidates must be currently enrolled in university students.
  • Language Requirement: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
