Lamar University Academic Excellence Awards for International Students in USA Established in 1923, Lamar University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Beaumont (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Texas. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Lamar University is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Lamar University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 96 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this US higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Undergraduate and Graduate degree in any subject offered by the university
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • The program is to first-time-in-college freshmen (dual credit and AP credit are still eligible) with minimum high school GPA* of 3.8 and must rank in the top 25% of their class** OR submit SAT (1200-1320) or ACT (25-28) test scores.
  • International students must submit their SAT (1200-1320) or ACT (25-28) scores for consideration.

Offered Benefits

The Academic Excellence award program will give students $32,000 over four years: $5,500 per year will be applied toward tuition and $2,500 will be applied toward on-campus residence hall at Lamar University.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To be considered for this award, all students are invited to fill out the supplemental LU Scholarship application at  edu/myscholarships.
  • Supporting Documents: You must submit the following official transcript(s) indicating:
  • The conferred bachelor’s or master’s degree as required for the intended program from a regionally accredited US institution or its equivalent.
  • The most recent attendance if it differs from the institution of the conferred degree. This requirement applies regardless of the length of time in attendance and regardless of whether credit was earned or is desired.
  • Admission Requirements: For taking admission, applicants check the  entry requirements of the university.
  • Language Requirement: International applicants, both undergraduate and graduate, must provide proof of English language proficiency through scores on the TOEFL or IELTS.
