Kochi University of Technology’s Special Scholarship Program (SSP) was established in 2003 in order to support the advanced research of the university through the contribution of highly capable doctoral students.

Every year, Kochi University of Technology(KUT) enrolls approximately 15 selected doctoral students to work in specific research projects. Each student pursues a doctoral course in English while at the same time assisting his/her host professor in his/her research projects and receiving monthly payment in return for his/her contribution to the projects.

Kochi University of Technology’s Special Scholarship Program (SSP) for Phd Established in 1997, Kochi University of Technology is a public higher education institution located in the medium-sized town of Kami (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Kochi. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, Kochi University of Technology is a coeducational higher education institution. Kochi University of Technology offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. This 22 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 20-30% making this Japanese higher education organization a very selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must:

  • have or be scheduled to acquire a master’s degree before the KUT enrollment date;
  • be 35 years old or less at the time of enrollment;
  • have an excellent academic record and strong bachelor’s and master’s degrees from reputable universities;
  • have the intention, adequate knowledge and research skill to work in one of the designated research projects;
  • have high English proficiency.

Offered Benefits

Scholarship exemption from 30,000 yen entrance examination fee, 300,000 yen enrollment fee and 535,800 yen/year tuition fee; to support living expenses, 150,000 yen/month(1080 Eur) is paid for research project work; for travel and initial living costs 150,000 yen is provided (for foreign students who are living outside Japan, and who have, or have the intention to acquire, “Student” status of Japanese residence at the time of entry in Japan).
