King’s College London International Joint PhD Scholarships Established in 1829, King's College London is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of London (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, King's College London (KCL) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. King's College London (KCL) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.   • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Applicants must be due to commence a full-time joint PhD program run in collaboration between King’s College London and a stated partner (The University of Hong Kong, Humboldt University, Berlin, The National University of Singapore, or The University of Sao Paulo) during the 2023/24 academic year. Refer to the ‘CDS PGR Joint PhD 23-24 guidance’ document for a full list of eligible programs
  • Applicants must have applied to King’s College London as the home institution
  • Applicants must have provisional agreement from supervisors at both King’s and the partner university
  • Applicants must have submitted all the required application materials by the funding deadline, including references and the Travel Plan form, which can be found online or obtained via the King’s Admissions office.

Offered Benefits

The award is offered for four years and depends on the successful progression of the candidate. The scholarship will cover the following:

  • Tuition Fees
  • Annual Stipend, rate TBC (was £19,668 for the year 2022/23)
  • Annual Research Grant of £1,500

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Students must first apply to King’s College London for one of the following full-time joint PhD programs using the online admissions portal.
  • King’s-HKU program
  • King’s-Humboldt programs
  • King’s-NUS programs
  • King’s-USP programs
  • Supporting Documents: The student must have submitted all necessary information and supporting documentation, including the Travel Plan form and references.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Applications for joint PhD programs must be approved by King’s College London and the partner university before a formal admissions offer can be made. As such, the process may take longer than for a single PhD program.
  • Students must spend a set minimum amount of time at the partner university (12 months for the Humboldt, NUS, and USP partnerships and 50% of the overall time for the HKU partnership).
  • Language Requirement: To study at King’s, it is required to provide certification of competence in English before starting studies. Check full English language entry requirements.
