Dalhousie awards Killam Predoctoral Scholarships on a competitive basis to outstanding graduate students in thesis-based programs (Master's or Doctoral level) in any discipline in the sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. Candidates are selected from the Harmonized Scholarship Process based on departmental support and the results of the university-level review process.

Killam Predoctoral international Scholarships at Dalhousie University, Canada Founded in 1818, Dalhousie University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Halifax (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Nova Scotia. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Labour and Advanced Education, Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Dalhousie University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 201 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 60-70% making this Canadian higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Killam awards are open to both Canadian and International applicants.
  • Applicants are expected to have also applied for funding from relevant provincial, national or international agencies. For Canadians, this may include NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, NSHRF, NSGS, etc, as applicable to their discipline. For non-Canadian, applicants are expected to have applied for provincial scholarships (NSGS, etc.) and national/international scholarships for which they would be eligible.
  • Killam Predoctoral Scholarship holders must be eligible to receive scholarship support for at least two years. This means that at the Master's level only newly entering students will be considered. At a Doctoral level, only students who have spent less than 24 months in program by May 1st of the award year will be considered.
  • Awardees must take up their awards in the earliest possible term, so in-program awardees at the doctoral level are expected to begin their award on May 1st

Offered Benefits

Master's (Level 1): $6666.66 per term + ITF (international students) + relocation allowance (if applicable)
Doctoral (Level 2): $10000 per term + relocation allowance (if applicable) + President's Award for two years. Note that Dalhousie PhD programs no longer have International Tuition Fees applied.
