The University of Birmingham is pleased to offer the Trust LLM Scholarships in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice pathway or the LLM (General) pathway. The scholarship programme is open for the academic year 2022-2023.

The Kalisher Trust aims to encourage and support talented students who may find the costs of reaching the Criminal Bar prohibitive. This scholarship will cover the cost of tuition fees and provide a generous contribution of £6,000 towards maintenance costs.

Kalisher Trust LLM Scholarships at University of Birmingham, UK for Master Founded in 1900, University of Birmingham is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Birmingham (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), West Midlands. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Ireland, UK
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Postgraduate taught master in LLM Criminal Law, Criminal Justice pathway, or LLM (General) pathway offered by the university
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • You must be resident in the UK and classed as UK/Ireland for fee purposes.
  • You must demonstrate intellectual ability – through academic performance, employment, or other experiences.
  • You must demonstrate motivation to succeed at the Criminal Bar – including demonstrating the steps taken to acquire the personal skills required of a Barrister and demonstrate the will to succeed.
  • You must demonstrate potential as an advocate – both oral and written skills.
  • You must demonstrate financial need, specifically outlining the impact of the scholarship on your aspirations to undertake the LLM programme or pursue a career at the Bar.
  • You must be self-funded and not be in receipt of any other sources of funding.
  • The award is for one year only and cannot be deferred.
  • You must have applied for a place on our LLM General pathway to complete the LLM General or the LLM Criminal Law and Criminal Justice before applying for the scholarship.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Interested students can apply for the course of their choice either via the  online application portal of the university. Applicants should complete the Kalisher Trust LLM Scholarship Application form and submit this and a CV to   stating “Kalisher Trust LLM Scholarship Application” and your student ID number in the email subject.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants are required to submit an application form that includes an 800-word statement asking to be considered for the scholarship and explaining why they believe
  • Admission Requirements: For taking admission, applicants must check all the entry  requirements of the university.
  • Language Requirement: The students must submit scores of English language proficiency tests to provide proof of proficiency. IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or alternative qualifications are accepted by Birmingham.
