The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is offering a 12-month Junior Research or Postdoctoral position starting on 1 September 2025. The role focuses on climate modelling and fire risk analysis in the Mediterranean as part of the EU-funded PREVENT project. Applications are open to candidates with a Master’s or PhD in climate science, physics, or related fields.

All international candidates must have a master’s or PhD in climate science, physics, mathematics, or a related field. They should have experience in climate modelling, data analysis, and scientific programming (e.g., Python, R, or Matlab), with good English skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is a renowned German research institute that focuses on studying global climate change and sustainable development. Located in Potsdam, it brings together experts from natural and social sciences to conduct interdisciplinary research.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to applicants from all nationalities

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in the fields of Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Physics, Mathematics/Statistics, or related disciplines

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Hold a Master’s or PhD degree in physics, mathematics/statistics, climate science, or a related field

    • Have solid knowledge in climate/atmospheric science and extreme weather

    • Experience with scientific programming (e.g., Python, Matlab, R) and high-performance computing

    • Familiarity with machine learning, time series analysis, and scientific data analysis is advantageous

    • Demonstrate independence, creativity, structured thinking, and teamwork

    • Possess excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
