Jerome Hynes Composers Award in Ireland for Bachelor

Applications are now open for the 2025 Jerome Hynes Composers Award. Open to young composers aged 30 or under who are Irish or living in Ireland, the winner will receive €2,500 to create a new piece to be performed at the National Concert Hall.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must be 30 years old or younger and either Irish or currently residing in Ireland. They must submit two original compositions in PDF format—one of which must be for voice and piano—with all identifying information removed for anonymous judging. Previous winners are not eligible to apply.

The National Concert Hall (NCH) is Ireland’s premier venue for music and the performing arts located in Dublin. Renowned for its world-class acoustics and diverse programming, the NCH hosts performances ranging from classical and contemporary music to jazz, traditional Irish, and international genres. It also plays a vital role in nurturing young talent through educational programs, commissions, and awards, making it a cornerstone of Ireland’s cultural and musical landscape.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Ireland
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The award supports original compositions in the field of music, with at least one submitted piece required to be for voice and piano.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
    • Be 30 years old or younger
    • Be Irish or currently living in Ireland
    • Submit two original music scores (PDF format) – one must be for voice and piano
    • Remove all identifying information from submitted scores for anonymous judging
    • Audio recordings are optional but encouraged
    • Only one submission per composer
    • Previous winners of the Jerome Hynes Award are not eligible
