Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Fellowship in the United States Established in 1819, University of Virginia is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the medium-sized town of Charlottesville (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Virginia. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, University of Virginia (Uva) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded to PhD in history, political science, policy studies, law, political economy, communications and media, and sociology subjects offered by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Applicant must be a Ph.D. candidate expecting to complete their dissertation by the conclusion of the Fellowship year or have outlined a detailed and workable two-year write-up plan that is persuasively documented. This is not a post-doctoral fellowship.
  • Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Each Fellow will work with a Mentor to assemble a network of scholars focused on an area of their research expertise as it engages important policy-facing questions.
  • A meeting at U.Va. Or the Hagley for the Galambos Fellow in the fall will set the agenda for year-long collaboration and recruitment of additional network members, who may subsequently meet for virtual reading groups, workshops, conference panels, symposia, manuscript workshops, or similarly focused activities.
  • A dedicated budget for each Fellow pays for network events and activities expenses.
  • Focused on-campus residential visits of up to two weeks at the Jefferson Scholars Foundation are required for all Fellows except Galambos Fellows, who hold their residencies at the Hagley Library during the academic year but may also wish to spend up to two weeks at the Foundation to build out their scholarly networks.
  • All Fellows will participate in summer boot camps designed to cultivate skills valuable for advanced leadership in academic life, higher education, nonprofit or government work, and education- or policy-facing consulting and finance.
  • Regardless of residency, Fellows are expected to participate in and contribute to the interdisciplinary community of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.
