Applications are now open for the IVADO Postdoctoral Research Funding Program 2026, offering outstanding national and international researchers the opportunity to contribute to the R³AI initiative – Robust, Reasoning, and Responsible Artificial Intelligence. Successful candidates will receive $100,000 per year for two years, including salary and research funds, to pursue cutting-edge AI research at one of IVADO’s partner universities in Québec.

To be eligible for the IVADO Postdoctoral Research Funding Program, applicants must hold or expect to complete a PhD within three years of the program’s start and enroll in a postdoctoral program at HEC Montréal, McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal, Université de Montréal, or Université Laval. Candidates must reside in Québec during the fellowship, maintain postdoctoral status for the full two-year duration, and have a qualified supervisor who is a regular faculty member at one of the partner universities.

IVADO Postdoctoral Research Funding Program in Canada for Fellowship Founded in 1878, Université de Montréal (University of Montréal) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Montréal (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Quebec. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur, Québec (Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Quebec), Université de Montréal (UdeM) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: over-45,000 students) coeducational higher education institution. Université de Montréal (UdeM) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to applicants from all countries around the world.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any research field relevant to the R³AI initiative and the multidisciplinary area of Artificial Intelligence and its applications.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Must be enrolled in a postdoctoral program at one of the following universities: HEC Montréal, McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal, Université de Montréal, or Université Laval.

  • Must have earned their PhD within the last three years prior to the start of the funding or expect to complete it before the fellowship begins.

  • Must maintain postdoctoral status for the entire duration (2 years) of the award.

  • Must reside in Québec during the funding period.

  • The supervisor must be a regular faculty member (assistant, associate, or full professor) at one of the five eligible universities and cannot have been the applicant’s PhD supervisor.

  • Applications from underrepresented groups, international candidates, and those from diverse disciplines (including social sciences and humanities) are strongly encouraged.

Offered Benefits

  • Total Funding: $100,000 per year for 2 years.

    • $80,000 annual salary (including benefits): $60,000 from IVADO + $20,000 from the supervisor.

    • $20,000 annual research funds (for student salaries, travel, and research activities).

  • Relocation Support: Applicants from countries eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA) may be reimbursed for relocation costs to Québec.

  • Duration: 2 years (renewable for the second year upon satisfactory progress).

  • Networking and Mentorship: Opportunity to engage with Québec’s leading AI research ecosystem through the R³AI initiative.
