The International Olive Council (IOC) is pleased to announce its PhD Scholarships program aimed at fostering research and professional development in the olive sector. This prestigious opportunity is open to nationals of IOC member countries with a strong academic background or professional experience in fields such as olive cultivation, olive oil production, environmental sciences, or agricultural studies.

Applicants must be nationals of a member country of the International Olive Council and possess a relevant academic background or professional experience in fields related to olive cultivation, olive oil production, or environmental and agricultural sciences.The International Olive Council (IOC) is an intergovernmental organization based in Madrid, Spain, dedicated to promoting the sustainable development of the olive sector worldwide. Established in 1959 under the United Nations, the IOC brings together olive oil and table olive producing and consuming countries to foster international cooperation, ensure quality standards, support research and training, and improve environmental practices in olive cultivation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All IOC member countries

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the host institution that relates to olive cultivation, olive oil production, environmental sustainability, or agricultural sciences.

  • Eligibility Criteria

  • Accepted into or enrolled in a PhD programme at a recognized university

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s (or equivalent) degree in relevant fields such as agronomy, food science, chemistry, biology, economics, etc.

  • Minimum 300 ECTS credits or equivalent qualification

  • Weighted average mark of ?7/10 for access-granting studies

  • Minimum B2 level of English (CEFR)

  • Must not already hold a PhD and must pursue the new PhD full-time

Offered Benefits

  • Tuition and registration fees covered

  • Annual research study expenses: up to €1,500

  • Monthly living allowance: €1,400

  • Travel costs at the start and end of the programme.

Submit the complete application by 12 June 2025, 12:00 p.m. (CET) via the official IOC platform.

  • PhD enrolment proof and research plan

  • CV and supervisor’s CV

  • Academic transcripts and certificates

  • English language certificate (B2)

  • Passport copy

  • Motivation and two recommendation letters
