Murdoch University is offering international postgraduate research scholarship for pursuing Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Education (EdD) at the university. Scholarships are awarded on academic merit, research experience and/or potential.

International Postgraduate Research Studentship (IPRS) at Murdoch University for Phd Established in 1975, Murdoch University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Murdoch (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Western Australia. Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:

An applicant must provide evidence of having achieved Murdoch University English language proficiency requirements. These requirements are IELTS Academic 6.5 – no individual band less than 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 90 – no individual band less than 20. Exceptions are Nursing, Education and Pharmacy with an IELTS requirement of 7.0.

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor Degree with first-class honours level or equivalent, or have a Masters Degree which incorporates satisfactory research preparation equivalent to at least 12 credit points. In order to be considered for a Studentship the admission shall be approved by the Dean of the School in which the proposed study is to be undertaken.

Please note: Students who have completed their previous degrees in countries where English is the primary language may be exempted from the need to provide IELTS or TOEFL results, but applicants who have completed degrees in countries where English is the language of instruction but not the primary language of that country will be required to provide IELTS or TOEFL results. Please contact Graduate Research if you think you may be exempted from this requirement.

Ineligibility:

The following applicants will be ineligible for a scholarship under the scheme:

  • New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
  • International applicants have completed a degree at the same or higher level.
  • International applicants who have commenced the degree prior to 1 January and who are seeking an award commencing in the year starting 1 January unless the applicant can establish that they were unable to apply for an award commencing in the previous year.
  • International applicants who have held an Studentship previously, unless it was terminated within three months of the commencement of benefits.
  • And International applicants who are in receipt of another equivalent award, scholarship or salary to undertake the proposed study (an ‘equivalent’ stipend would be regarded as one greater than 75% of the base studentship stipend rate). Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule.

Offered Benefits

The scholarships cover the research degree tuition fees and health insurance premiums. Murdoch University provides the successful applicant with a living allowance. The health insurance covers the student and their spouse and dependants (if any) for the period of the IPRS. Under the IPRS conditions travel and relocation costs are the responsibility of the applicant; however, Murdoch University provides their IPRS recipients with a (partial) allowance for relocation and airfares (based on receipts). Murdoch students also have access to a conference travel allowance once during the course of their degree, maintenance funding set by the Schools and a thesis production allowance.

Application Process

It is important that applicants include – if applicable – the following information as an attachment to their application:

  • evidence of a major thesis (of approximately 6 months duration)
  • evidence of academic research experience which may be equivalent to a major thesis
  • examiners reports of any dissertation or thesis
  • evidence of fellowship or professional memberships
  • in the case of art, design or other performance based programmes where other criteria may be inappropriate, evidence of international or national reputation by way of exhibitions, performance, or production with your role clearly explained, can be included
  • a list of any publications including work which you have done individually or jointly with others. The list should be presented with the following information: title, authorship (indicate your contribution, if it is a joint publication), type of publication (e.g. journal article, poster, CD-Rom, conference paper, performance, web-based publication), whether it is an academically refereed publication and details on how this item contributes to the proposed thesis

Applicants who have had sustained contact with a potential academic research supervisor at Murdoch University prior to submission of their application will be considered favourably.
