The Swedish Research Council is offering an international postdoc grant for researchers in natural and engineering sciences. This grant provides substantial funding to help newly qualified researchers expand their expertise by working abroad.

Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree from a Swedish higher education institution or the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, within the last two years. Employment at a Swedish institution that meets the criteria for administering the grant is required, with full-time employment during the grant period, ensuring tax payment in Sweden during the stay abroad. Verification of the doctoral degree is necessary before the grant can be awarded.The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) is the primary governmental agency in Sweden responsible for funding research across various disciplines, including natural and engineering sciences, medicine, humanities, and social sciences. It plays a crucial role in advancing Sweden’s research landscape by providing grants to researchers and research environments of the highest scientific quality.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: International
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in Natural and Engineering Sciences.
  • Admissible Criteria:
    • Applicants must be individual researchers who have completed a doctoral degree at a Swedish higher education institution (HEI) or the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, no more than 2 years before the deadline.
    • Applicants must be employed at a Swedish HEI or other Swedish organization fulfilling the criteria for administrating the grant.
    • The applicant must be employed full-time during the grant period, with employment in Sweden and tax payment during the stay abroad.
    • The doctoral degree must be verified before the grant can be paid out. If the degree is Swedish, it can be validated before application submission.

Offered Benefits

  • Grant Amount: 1,300,000 SEK per year, plus an additional 50,000 SEK per year for accompanying family members.
  • Grant Period: 18–36 months, providing an opportunity for newly qualified researchers to expand their networks and competences by working abroad under secure employment conditions. The grant aims to enhance the quality and renewal of Swedish research.

Application Process

Applicants must submit their applications through the Prisma system between 21 August 2024 and 17 September 2024. The grant period is expected to start in January 2025.
