Assessment of the winner will be done on the basis of the documents provided. The scholarship is worth €5,770 per annum for two years.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries:  EU and international students can apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects:  PhD level program taught at the Irish Institute of Korean Studies at the University College Cork.
  • Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must be accepted to the PhD (or PhD Track) program.
  • The applicants must have a high level of written and spoken Korean (and/or Classical Chinese for research purposes) and be able to demonstrate such abilities.

Offered Benefits

The scholarship winner announced by the University College Cork can expect to be awarded the amount of the first two years of PhD fees, i.e., €5,770 per annum (subject to change).

  • How to Apply:  The applicants must visit the  university portal  to submit an admission application. Scholarship applications must be sent via mail to   and must include the below listed supporting documents.
  • Supporting Documents:  The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Cover letter 
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Project proposal 
  • A writing sample in English (no longer than 6,000 words) 
  • transcript(s)
  • Two references
  • Admission Requirements:  The applicants must have at least Second Class Honours (Grade 1) or equivalent in their first or subsequent degree and must also have a Masters in Korean Studies.
  • Language Requirement:  The students must submit scores of the following  English language proficiency  tests:
  • Duolingo – 120 
  • TOEFL IBT – 90 
  • IELTS – 6.5 
  • PTE – 63
