Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for a PhD in any subject offered by the Department of Green Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University
Admissible Criteria:
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a master’s degree in environmental engineering, bioscience engineering, chemical engineering, environmental science, environmental technology, or equivalent (students graduating in 2023-2024 can also apply).
  • Have an interest in scientific research, with a critical and analytical attitude.
  • Be able to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Possess good organizational, managerial, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and an interest in involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Have a strong conceptual understanding of sustainability topics such as a circular economy or a low-carbon society.
  • Master the English language, both written and orally, in an academic context.
  • Experience with quantitative research is essential.
  • Additional plus points include experience with LCA software, circularity indicators, sustainability assessments of thermal comfort and/or transport, development of value chain scenarios, demand-side measures, policy-directed research, programming languages (e.g., Python), and environmentally extended input-output models.

Offered Benefits

  • Full-time position as a doctoral fellow for up to 48 months, starting October 1, 2024.
  • Fellowship amount equivalent to 100% of the net salary of an AAP member, determined by family status and seniority.
  • Tax-free grant under the regulations for doctoral fellowships.
