To make education accessible and affordable to its international students, Radboud University has established the International PhD Position in Outer Space and Colonialism for the academic year 2025-2026.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a master’s degree in Human Geography, Anthropology, Science and Technology Studies (STS), Black Ecologies, Blue Humanities, or a related field. They should have a strong interest in colonial processes and themes such as outer space, ocean geographies, or extractivism. Experience with qualitative research methods, particularly ethnography, is required, along with excellent written and spoken English skills. The position is open to candidates of all nationalities, and applications from underrepresented groups in academia are strongly encouraged.

International PhD Position in Outer Space and Colonialism, Netherlands Established in 1923, Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen (Radboud University) is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Nijmegen (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Gelderland. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities are eligible to apply.

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in subjects aligned with human geography, anthropology, STS (science, technology and society), Black ecologies, Blue humanities, or related fields.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Hold an MA in Human Geography, Anthropology, STS, Black Ecologies, Blue Humanities, or a related discipline.

    • Have a strong interest in colonial processes and themes such as outer space, oceans, or extractivism.

    • Demonstrate experience with ethnographic or qualitative fieldwork.

    • Show excellent proficiency in spoken and written English.

    • Possess strong project planning and collaborative skills.

    • Be motivated to engage with decolonial conceptual frameworks and produce high-quality academic research.
