­ The German Bundestag is offering International Parliamentary Scholarship Programme for the highly motivated graduates from Arab countries for the year 2017. The German Bundestag invites you to spend four weeks in Berlin in September 2017.

The programme is intended for talented Arab people who are interested in politics and who are keen to play an active role in promoting core democratic values in their home countries.

The program is under the patronage of the President of the Bundestag. Its objectives are to promote relations between Germany and the participating countries, consolidating democratic values and tolerance, to deepen understanding of cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence in the world to secure.

The German Bundestag collaborates with the Free University of Berlin, the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Technical University of Berlin to run its International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS) scheme. This gives well qualified young people with a strong interest in politics from the USA, France, Israel and Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of Germany’s system of parliamentary government.

International Parliamentary Scholarship Programme for Arab Countries in Germany, 2017 for Course Established in 1809, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Humboldt University of Berlin) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Berlin (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Senatskanzlei Wissenschaft und Forschung, Berlin (Senate Chancellery for Science and Research, Berlin), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 210 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Citizenship of an Arab country
  • Under the age of 35 at the start of the scholarship
  • University degree
  • Very good knowledge of German
  • An interest in politics, and social/political commitment.

Offered Benefits

Participants will receive a monthly scholarship of 500 euros. In addition, accommodation in an apartment complex will be provided free of charge, and the costs of travel to and from Berlin will be covered, as well as the costs of health, accident and personal liability insurance.

Application Process

Please send completed application documents by email as a PDF-file to the German mission in their home country; the PDF-file name should consist of their surname, followed by their given name (i.e. “surname-first name”). Their application should be submitted in German and include the following scanned documents:

  • Passport photo
  • Application form
  • Evidence of very good knowledge of German
  • Personal statement of reasons for applying (maximum of two pages)
  • Copy of passport or ID card
  • Certified copy of university degree certificate
  • Letter of recommendation in German or English (from a university professor or employer, assessing the applicant’s qualification for the programme)
  • Copies are officially certified when they have been signed and stamped by a recognised authority (a German or foreign public authority, an embassy or consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany, a university, notary, or translator/interpreter registered with the public authorities) to confirm that they are a true copy of the original. If several photocopies are stapled together, each individual copy must be certified in this way. Unless documents are properly certified, the application cannot be processed.
