The University of Antwerp is eagerly awaiting applications from outstanding students for its International Doctoral Scholarships in Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Neurodegenerative Disorders for the academic session 2024/2025.

The study award is particularly open to international students who wish to undertake the PhD degree program at the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries:  Home country national students and overseas students can both apply. 
  • Eligible Course or Subjects:  PhD study in the field of Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Antwerp can be applied for. 
  • Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • You hold a Master degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry or related topics, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • You have background in cellular and molecular biology.
  • Experience with iPSC, mouse work or bioinformatics will be considered as additional strengths.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s  educational vision.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and  university research policies.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.

Offered Benefits

The University of Antwerp will provide your monthly amount calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP). You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting. You will do most of your work at Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.

  • How to Apply:  The students must apply for admission via the  university portal . Interested students will be required to complete a separate  scholarship application form  to be considered.
  • Supporting Documents:  The students are required to present the following attachments:
    • a detailed academic CV
    • a letter of motivation explaining why you are interested in our work and aspire this position
    • the names and contact details of 2 references
  • Admission Requirements:  The applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Applied Economics, Business Engineering, or equivalent, or you will have obtained it by the time you start to work.
  • Language Requirement:  The applicants must be fluent in both written and oral English.
