The IST Scientific Internships in Austria 2023 is now accepting applications from students interested in biology, computer science, data science & scientific computing, physics, mathematics, neuroscience, and other natural or disciplinary sciences. During this one-year paid internship program, students gain hands-on experience in their respective fields under the supervision of professionals in a supportive environment.

Institute of Science and Technology Austria Scientific Internships Established in 2009, Institute of Science and Technology Austria is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the medium-sized town of Klosterneuburg (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Lower Austria. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft and Forschung, Österreich (Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, Austria), Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: under-250 students) coeducational higher education institution. Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the natural or computer sciences, mathematics, or a related field.
  • The candidate must be able to speak and understand the English Language.
  • The candidate must be passionate about the research topic for which he or she is applying.

First, you identify which research group you’re most interested in working with. In order to find out about the range of research groups available, please browse  this overview of research groups available.

Once you’ve found a research group you’d like to work with, email the research group leader directly, remembering to include:

  • A short intro to your background, and your motivation to work with them
  • An attached CV (in PDF format), listing relevant experience, education history
  • Possible dates for your internship

If the research group leader is interested in hosting you as a scientific intern in their research group, he/she or his/her assistant will be in touch with you regarding the next steps.

Please note: not all research groups are able to accept an intern. Before applying, candidates should take a closer look at the research groups’ webpages to make sure their profile and research interests match the groups’ research topics.
