The President’s PhD Scholarships at Imperial College London provide an outstanding opportunity for high-performing undergraduate or Master’s students to receive full funding for a 3.5-year PhD program at a world-class research institution. Benefits of Imperial College Scholarship Program

The scholarship provides the following support for the 3.5 years of study:

  • Full coverage of tuition fees.
  • A stipend of £25,150 per annum (2024-25 rate) for living costs.
  • A consumables fund of £2,000 per annum for the first three years of study.
  • Access to a bespoke program of opportunities and events delivered by the Graduate School.

Requirements for Imperial College Scholarship Program

  • Candidates must have, or expect to receive, a first-class undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Candidates with a standalone Master’s degree must have, or expect to receive, a distinction. Those with an integrated Master’s degree must meet the first-class undergraduate requirement.
  • The scholarship is open to new PhD applications only. Current Imperial College PhD students are not eligible.

Selection Process

Review and Selection:

  • Stage 1: Departments at Imperial will review candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and select a shortlist to present to the College Selection Panel.
  • Stage 2: The College Selection Panel, comprising the Vice-Provost (Research), the Director of the Graduate School, and the Faculty Vice-Deans for Research, will make the final decisions.

Candidates will be assessed based on:

  • Academic Excellence: Past academic results, transcripts, awards, and distinctions.
  • Research Potential: Research experience, interest in discovery, research proposal, and departmental feedback.

Applicants not selected for the scholarship will automatically be considered for a standard PhD.

Timeline

Successful candidates will receive written confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a PhD place will be conditional on the candidate receiving the predicted qualifications.

  • Applicants who apply by 23:59 (UK time) 4 November 2024 and are awarded a scholarship will be notified by end of January 2025. 
  • Applicants who apply by 23:59 (UK time) 9 January 2025 and are awarded a scholarship will be notified by end of March 2025.
  • Applicants who apply by 23:59 (UK time) 10 March 2025 and are awarded a scholarship will be notified by end of May 2025.

Application Documents

  1. Contact a Supervisor: Before applying, candidates must contact a potential supervisor in an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to supervise their research project.
  2. Online Application: Submit your application for admission to study at Imperial through the online admissions system. Ensure that you select the President’s PhD Scholarship option in the funding section of the application form.
  3. Personal Statement: When prompted, include a 2-page document with the following:
    • A personal statement explaining your motivations for applying to Imperial and the scholarship.
    • A research proposal outlining your intended research project.
  4. References: Provide the names of two academic referees who can support your application. Do not include your proposed PhD supervisor.

Imperial College London 2025 PhD Scholarship for International Students Established in 1907, Imperial College London is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of London (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, Imperial College London is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution.
