To expand its support of women and nonbinary journalists in the USA, the International Women’s Media Foundation is happy to announce the Howard G. Buffett Funds for women journalists for the academic year 2022/2023.

The fund was designed to help women journalists by supporting grantees, including educational opportunities, investigative reporting, and media development initiatives. IWMF will make an annual total of $230,000 worth of grants to support women and nonbinary journalists in their projects and endeavors.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • The Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists is open to women and nonbinary journalists of any nationality.
  • Journalism must be the applicant’s primary profession.
  • Applicants must have at least one year of professional journalism experience with a track record of publishing in non-student outlets.
  • We accept applications from teams of journalists; however, the application must be led and submitted by a woman or nonbinary journalist, and the team must include at least 50% women.
  • Due to staff capacity, applications are only accepted in English (preferred) or Spanish, but reporting may be published in any language.

Each successful scholar will receive an annual total of $230,000 worth of grants to support women and nonbinary journalists in their projects and endeavors at IWMF in the USA for the academic year 2022-2023.

  • How to Apply: The applicants are required to submit an application on the online portal. The system allows applicants to log in and saves work before creating a final submission.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must be prepared to provide the following information (in English):
  • Contact Information and Resume/CV
  • Brief description of the project or opportunity you are seeking funding for
  • If applicable, a list of any other team members or applicants.
  • Description of the purpose of the proposal and the issue/problem it is designed to address
  • Estimated budget and time frame
  • Contact information of two professional references
  •  Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a previous degree certificate with remarkable results.
  • Language Requirement: Students must be proficient in written and spoken the English language.
