Harvard Library is inviting scholars who want to pursue projects that require in-depth research on Houghton Library‡s holdings to participate in Houghton Library Visiting Fellowships program. The applications must be submitted for the academic year 2023-2024.

This fellowship program is open to candidates from all countries and of any nationality. International applicants in possession of a J-1 visa can also participate. Applications from students and scholars from underrepresented groups in academia, including women, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, first-generation scholars, and persons with disabilities, are particularly welcomed. The fellowship is valued at a stipend of $4,500 for the tenure of the appointment of selected candidates.

Houghton Library Visiting Fellowships for International Students in USA Established in 1636, Harvard University is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Cambridge (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Massachusetts. Offered Benefits

The Harvard Library will award fellowship stipends of $4,500 to help support the selected visiting fellows during the tenure of their appointment.

  • How to Apply: The applicants can submit their applications for the opportunity online. All eligible candidates will be considered.
  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • a project proposal (1,000 words maximum)
  • a preliminary list of Houghton collection materials
  • a curriculum vitae
  • one letter of reference
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants are required to produce a written summary of their experience working with the collections.
  • Language Requirement: The applicants must demonstrate the needed level of English language proficiency.
