The scholarship is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who are commencing the Juris Doctor at the University of Melbourne. Applicants must apply through Graduate Access Melbourne under disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances, submit the required supplementary form, and meet all entry requirements for the Juris Doctor program.

Holding Redlich Indigenous Scholarship in Australia Established in 1853, The University of Melbourne is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Melbourne (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Victoria. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Education and Training, Australia, The University of Melbourne (UNIMELB) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: over-45,000 students) coeducational higher education institution. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Australia (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students; domestic and international status accepted)
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for study in the Juris Doctor (Law) program offered by the University of Melbourne.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by descent, identify as such, and be accepted by the community in which they live or have lived

  • Have applied for the Juris Doctor through Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) under the Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances category

  • Have submitted the Disadvantaged Socio-economic Circumstances Supplementary Form

  • Meet the Graduate Access Melbourne entry requirements for the Juris Doctor program

  • Be commencing future study in the award year

Offered Benefits

  • Total value: Up to $30,000

  • Living allowance: $10,000 per year for up to three years

  • Payment structure:

    • First semester:

      • $1,500 establishment allowance (paid shortly after enrolment)

      • $3,500 half-yearly instalment (paid in April)

    • Remaining duration:

      • $5,000 paid in April

      • $5,000 paid in September

Application Process

No separate application is required. Eligible students are automatically considered for the scholarship if they have applied for admission to the Juris Doctor program for commencement in the award year through Graduate Access Melbourne.
