The Hertie School of Governance Doctoral Programme in Governance is open to candidates with an exceptionally strong master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, law, political science, sociology, public administration, Management, or related fields. The doctoral programme starts at the beginning of September each year with a group of about 10 PhD students.
With a PhD obtained in Doctoral Programme in Governance, students are at the cutting edge of social science knowledge in a field that has emerged as one of the most important and dynamic fields of inquiry. It brings together perspectives from economics, political science, law, and sociology, and requires excellence in qualitative and quantitative methodologies. It is problem-oriented, both in a theoretical as well as practical sense. Above all, the field of governance is inherently comparative, international, and policy-oriented.
Hertie School of Governance Information
Founded in 2003, Hertie School of Governance is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Berlin (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Senatskanzlei Wissenschaft und Forschung, Berlin (Senate Chancellery for Science and Research, Berlin), Hertie School of Governance is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: 250-499 students) coeducational higher education institution. Hertie School of Governance offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Offered Benefits
The Hertie School does not charge tuition fees for its doctoral programmes. Each year we offer eight competitive three-year stipends of 1450 euros per month plus a monthly health insurance contribution of up to 200 euros.
