Hertie Scholarship Programme at the Studienkolleg zu Berlin


The Hertie scholarship is open to teacher training students and teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession who come from an immigrant background. Applicants with any teaching qualification, from any subject or educational level who have at least 1,5 or 2 years of training (academic or in terms of the preparatory work period) ahead at the start of the scholarship are eligible for funding. Please note that funding for the winter semester of 2014/2015 will be possible in Hamburg and Lower Saxony alone. During their training the scholars are supported financially and in a non-material way for a maximum period of 2 years. The funding is provided in accordance with the BAföG regulations as a full sponsorship (EUR 650 per month) or a part-time grant (EUR 300 per month). Teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession are paid a grant worth EUR 1,000 per year. The non-material support entails, i.e., a comprehensive programme of seminars.

Scholarship Value Teacher training students will be awarded a study grant, whereas teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession will receive an educational grant:

  • students are granted, in accordance with the BAföG regulations, a full sponsorship (EUR 650 per month) or a part-time sponsorship (EUR 300 per month)

  • teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession are paid a grant worth EUR 1,000 per year
