Rural Doctors Network is offering Health Workforce Scholarship Program to talented and motivated students for the academic session 2024/2025.

The goal of the HWSP is to enhance access to essential services in rural and remote areas. This is achieved by supporting the development of skills, capacity, and scope of practice of privately employed health professionals, ensuring that services are directed to the regions where they are most needed.The Rural Doctors Network (RDN) is a not-for-profit, non-government charitable organization that works to improve access to quality healthcare for all Australians, regardless of where they live. RDN also works with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, rural NSW Primary Health Networks, local communities, governments and rural Local Health Districts on workforce matters, and university medical faculties to promote rural medicine

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Australia
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for postgraduate courses leading to qualifications in primary health care, including but not limited to medicine, nursing, midwifery, allied health, dental, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Hold a primary professional qualification (minimum of a Bachelor’s degree)
  • Have professional registration (AHPRA or other relevant peak body)
  • Work in roles such as Medical Practitioner, Nurse or Midwife, Dentist, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker/Practitioner, or Allied Health Professions
  • Provide primary health care services in MMM 3-7 locations or ACCHOs in MMM 1-7 locations in NSW or ACT
  • Propose to undertake study or upskilling activities that fill high-priority gaps in primary healthcare service provision as identified in the HWNA
  • Continue working for an eligible employer in an eligible location after completing the course

Offered Benefits

The HWSP offers two types of funding:

  • Scholarships: Up to $10,000 per year for up to two years toward the cost of completing a postgraduate course.
  • Bursaries: Up to $10,000 per year for professional development and upskilling course fees, including associated accommodation and travel expenses.

Applications can be submitted online through the RDN Service Portal when an application round is open. The application process includes providing:

  • Employment and service location details
  • Qualifications and professional registration information
  • Details about the proposed professional development activity and its community benefit
