Health Policy & Systems Science


The Health Policy and Systems Science Programme is a joint initiative of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the China Medical Board. In the third year of the Programme, it has been extended to include both MSc training at the world-renowned London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and the opportunity for students registered for a PhD at our partner universities to receive support from a School supervisor in partnership with their Chinese supervisor and to spend time at the School in London. Training must be relevant to the subject area of health policy and systems science. Scholarship participants will benefit from world-class teaching in London, and PhD candidates will in addition build their knowledge and understanding of health systems and policy research through jointly supervised research.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be affiliated to, or have graduated from, one of our partner universities: Kunming Medical University, Peking University Health Sciences Centre, and Sichuan University School of Medicine (West China University of Medical Sciences).

Offered Benefits

MSc

Once awarded the scholarship, the applicant must apply at once to one of the following master’s courses:

  • Control of Infectious Diseases
  • Demography & Health
  • Epidemiology
  • Health Policy, Planning & Financing
  • Medical Statistics
  • Public Health
  • Public Health in Developing Countries
  • Reproductive & Sexual Health Research

The scholarship award is conditional on the offer and acceptance of a place on an MSc programme starting in September 2015.

The scholarship funding covers:

  • Tuition fees for an MSc programme
  • A return air ticket from China to London
  • A stipend for cost of living expenses and accommodation in London for 12 months (approximately £1190 per month)
  • The support of a designated School faculty member who will coordinate the programme and provide enrichment opportunities.

PhD

The scholarship funding can cover:

  • Fees for up to one year of study in London (covering supervision and any taught modules)
  • A return air ticket from China to London
  • A stipend for cost of living expenses and accommodation in London for a maximum of 12 months (approximately £1190 per month)
  • Other costs according to the specific needs of each student and as decided together by the student’s London and Chinese supervisors in consultation with the student, including visits of the London supervisor to China, fieldwork costs, conference attendance, study visits, external short courses, etc.
  • The support of a designated faculty member who will coordinate the programme and provide enrichment opportunities.
