Applications are invited from qualified students who are or who wish to engage in post-graduate study in a field of Public or Community Health Practice within any recognized discipline.

Eligibility Criteria

The Isabel Loucks Foster Public Health Bursary Fund

  • Full-time students engaged in post-graduate study in a field of Public/Community Health Practice within an applicable discipline (e.g. nurses, nutritionists, environmental health officers, physicians, etc.).
  • Persons must be ordinarily resident in B.C
  • Persons must have demonstrated excellence in performance and leadership ability
  • Studies may be undertaken at any suitable educational institution either within or outside British Columbia

The British Columbia (B.C.) Associated Boards of Health Dr. Ken Benson Memorial Bursary

  • Full-time students engaged in post-graduate study in a field of Public/Community Health Practice within an applicable discipline (e.g. nurses, nutritionists, environmental health officers, etc.).
  • Physicians are not eligible for this bursary.
  • Strong preference will be given to individuals who are resident and practicing in B.C.
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who demonstrate a commitment to remain in B.C.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who commit to live and practice in rural areas of B.C.
  • Studies may be undertaken at any post-secondary institution in B.C.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates who wish to study out-of-province or out-of-country

Offered Benefits

Awards in amounts up to $5,000 are available.

Application Process

Required Documents:

  • Completed application form.
  • Curriculum Vitae (resumé), maximum 3 pages.
  • Proof of enrollment and satisfactory standing in a course of study or acceptance into a course of study.
  • Maximum two reference letters, one of which should be from a more senior person in your current employment.
  • Letter from yourself to support the application, limit 250 words. Information should include:
    • How this educational experience will enhance your future goals and plans in community/public health.
    • How you have demonstrated excellence in performance and shown leadership ability in your profession/vocation.
    • What do you think are the most important public health issues or challenges in your area?
    • Other relevant information that you think the review committee should know about you in making their decision
