The study award is open to full-time or part-time graduate students enrolled in programs administered by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Applicants must not have received the award previously within the same degree program. Funding supports presenting research at conferences or open access publishing, provided the event or publication occurs during active enrollment.The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a globally recognized institution located in Vancouver and Kelowna, Canada. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by graduate programs administered by UBC’s Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (excludes programs like MBA, MM, MEng, etc.).
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Be registered as full-time or part-time graduate students in a UBC-Vancouver program.
    • Must not have previously received the award during the same degree program.
    • For Presentation Funding, applicants must:
      • Present a paper or poster, or participate in an artistic work at an academic conference, symposium, or workshop (in-person or virtual).
      • Be selected through a competitive, open, and publicly advertised process.
      • Be enrolled full-time in their graduate degree program during the event.
    • For Open Access Publishing Funding, applicants must:
      • Have a peer-reviewed publication accepted for open access publishing, incurring a publishing fee.
      • Be enrolled in their program at the time of acceptance.
      • Ensure the journal meets the criteria of inclusion in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

Offered Benefits

  • A lump sum of $500 per graduate student per degree program to support:
    • Travel expenses for presenting at academic conferences or workshops.
    • Open access publishing fees for peer-reviewed publications.
  • Funds will be directly deposited into the student’s bank account or issued as a cheque.

Application Process

  1. Prepare the following documents:
    • A completed Graduate Student Travel and Research Dissemination Fund application form (signed by the applicant and their faculty supervisor).
    • Proof of conference presentation/program agenda or proof of open access publishing charge.
  2. Submit the application by email to only after the travel or publishing has occurred. Applications for future events will not be accepted.
