Graduate Assistant Geology Scholarships at University of Hawaii, USA Established in 1907, University of Hawaii at Manoa is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Honolulu (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Hawaii. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the WASC Senior College and University Commission, University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 112 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this US higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must have a record of rigorous university-level coursework in science or engineering, including undergraduate studies in biology, physics, chemistry, geology, mathematics, microbiology, zoology, or related fields.
  • All applicants must have completed college-level mathematics and calculus courses that include linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, and vector calculus. Applicants must also have completed at least one year each of college-level physics and chemistry.
  • GRE scores (general test only) are no longer required for admission to the Department. TOEFL scores are required of foreign applicants for whom English is not their primary language.

Offered Benefits

Most of the Department's graduate students receive financial support as Research Assistants on federally-funded research grants and contracts. The Department also has several state-funded Teaching Assistantships. Both research and teaching assistantships include tuition waivers. In addition, scholarships in varying amounts are awarded annually on a competitive basis.

  • Admission Requirements: Student must have a theoretical/numerical skills to work on a funded, cross-disciplinary project, involving geology and astronomy, i.e., in the area of marine geology/astrochronology/cyclostratigraphy. Quantitative skills or a background in physics, astronomy, numerics (or similar)
  • Language Requirement: TOEFL scores are required of foreign applicants for whom English is not their primary language.
