Global PhD Scholarship in History at the University of St Andrews Founded in 1413, University of St Andrews is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the medium-sized town of St Andrews (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Scotland. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, University of St Andrews is a medium-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 9,000-9,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of St Andrews offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Domicile for fee status: No restrictions.
  • Level of study: Postgraduate Research (Doctoral)
  • Year of entry: 2020-2021 academic year; possible start dates are 27 August 2020, 27 September 2020, 27 October 2020, 27 January 2021, or 27 May 2021
  • Schools: School of History
  • Additional criteria: Applicants must not already (i) hold a doctoral degree; or (ii) be matriculated for a doctoral degree at the University of St Andrews or another institution.

Offered Benefits

**Duration of award
**Up to 3.5 years. The student will be expected to spend approximately half of the award term at the University of St Andrews and a half at Macquarie University. The successful candidate will be expected to have completed the doctorate degree by the end of the award term. The award term excludes the continuation period and any extension periods.

**Value of award
**The award covers full tuition fees for the period of time spent at the University of St Andrews. For this period, the student will also receive a stipend payable at the standard UK Research council rate (the 2019-2020 annual rate is £15,009). For the period spent at Macquarie University, the student may receive funding to help with living and maintenance costs.
