Funding for EU undergraduate students


When planning on studying, and especially when you’re considering studying in another country, money can be a worry.

The good news for non-UK EU students studying in Scotland is that you won't have to pay tuition fees if you start from year one at Edinburgh Napier University - these will be paid for by the Scottish Government through the Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).

Funding for EU undergraduate students Founded in 1992, Edinburgh Napier University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Edinburgh (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Scotland. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, Edinburgh Napier University is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Edinburgh Napier University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 27 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to have your tuition fees paid by SAAS, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You are taking a full-time undergraduate course in Scotland, starting from first year, and plan to graduate in Scotland.
  • You are a non-UK EU national, an EU overseas territories national or the family member of either.
  • You have been ordinarily resident in the EU, the EU overseas territories, elsewhere in the EEA or Switzerland for the three years immediately before the first day of the first academic year of your course (the relevant date).

In some cases you may even be eligible for the full-support package from SAAS which can include a loan and the option of applying for a bursary and supplementary grants.

To be eligible for the full-support package you must meet the following conditions:

  • You are a non-UK EU national or the child of such a national,
  • You have been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for the three years immediately before 1 August, and
  • You are ordinarily resident in Scotland on the 1 August.
