The Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Exeter is offering up to three Fully Funded Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarships in the Humanities.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must hold at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant humanities discipline and have obtained or be working toward a master’s degree at Merit level or equivalent.

Fully Funded Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarships in the Humanities, UK for PhD Established in 1955, University of Exeter is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Exeter (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), South West England. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, University of Exeter is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Exeter offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities (UK and International)
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in research areas within the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, including:
  • History

  • Literature

  • Languages (other than English)

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Hold at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant humanities field.

  • Have obtained or be working toward a Master’s degree at Merit level or equivalent.

  • Demonstrate research potential and academic excellence.

  • Have agreement in principle with a prospective supervisor at Exeter.

  • Meet the English language requirements of the University (if applicable).

  • Apply for a campus-based PhD program beginning in September 2026 (distance learning not eligible).

  • Research proposal (1,500–2,000 words) with supervisors agreed in principle.

  • Two references (at least one academic).

  • Proof of English language proficiency (if relevant).
