The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is inviting applicants for Fully funded PhD positions in Representation and Processing of Spoken Language in Biological and Artificial Neural Networks.

Applicants must hold or be close to completing a high-quality Research Master’s degree in cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, psychology, linguistics, or a related field. They should have research experience, strong data analysis or computational skills, and a keen interest in the neural and computational basis of language.

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is a world-renowned research institute dedicated to studying the psychological, neurological, and biological foundations of language located in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. It is part of the prestigious Max Planck Society and brings together experts from linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, and genetics to understand how humans acquire, use, and process language.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: PhD research in computational psycholinguistics, cognitive neuroscience, language and computation in neural systems

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Hold or expect to hold a high-quality Research Master’s degree in cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, psychology, linguistics, or a related field

    • Demonstrate experience in research, including several months of project-based work

    • Possess skills in scripting, data analysis, and/or computational modeling

    • Show strong interest in the computational basis of language in the brain

    • Be proficient in English (proof required for non-native speakers unless exempt)

    • Be able to start ideally by 1 September 2025 (latest by 1 November 2025)
