The Fulbright-Iméra Migration Studies Award is now open for the academic session 2026–2027. This prestigious opportunity is offered jointly by the Fulbright Commission and Iméra – Institute for Advanced Study of Aix Marseille Université in France.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must be U.S. citizens and established scholars affiliated with a higher education institution. They must not reside in France during the application process or award period. Proficiency in English is required, while French language skills are desirable due to Iméra’s bilingual setting. Applicants should propose original, interdisciplinary research related to migration studies, particularly with a focus on the Mediterranean region.

The Fulbright Commission is a prestigious bilateral organization that administers the Fulbright Program in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and foreign governments. Its mission is to promote mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchange between the United States and partner countries. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: United States (U.S. citizens only)

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for research in any subject related to migration studies, particularly interdisciplinary projects focused on the Mediterranean region.

  • Admissible Criteria:

    • Applicants must be established scholars affiliated with a higher education institution.

    • Must not reside in France at the time of application or during the fellowship.

    • Must hold U.S. citizenship (permanent residents are not eligible).

    • A demonstrated ability to conduct research in English is required; French proficiency is desirable.

    • Applicants should propose projects that are interdisciplinary, original, and collaborative.

    • A letter of invitation or recommendation is optional but encouraged.

Offered Benefits

  • Monthly Stipend: €2,400 (approx. $2,600 USD)

  • Accommodation: Fully paid furnished flat (including for families) at Iméra

  • Travel Allowance: €1,200 (approx. $1,300 USD)

  • Visa Fees: Waived for awardees and dependents

  • Additional Support: Assistance with school enrollment for children, participation in academic events, and access to research archives and office space

  • Duration Options:

    • 10 months: September 2026 – June 2027

    • 5 months: September 2026 – January 2027 OR February – June 2027.
