The Bilateral Fulbright Committee has agreed to open the call for Fulbright grants between the Principality of Andorra and the United States for the academic year 2024-2025, intended for Andorran graduates who want to continue their postgraduate studies in North American universities.

Summary

Nice offer for Andorran students to study master’s programs or doctorate in the United States.Over the years, the Government of Andorra has developed several academic cooperation agreements to promote exchanges between students and facilitate the mobility of young Andorrans to other continents. In this spirit, the Understanding Protocol between the Government of Andorra and the Government of the United States on the Fulbright Exchange Program was signed in Meritxell on November 29, 2000.

Why apply to this program? The Fulbright Exchange Program was created in 1946 by US Senator J. William Fulbright. Since then, thousands of young people from all over the world have benefited from this ambitious project. The scholarship opens each year so recipients can join American universities in the ongoing academic year. The Fulbright Bilateral Committee ensures the proper functioning of this project.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Andorra
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for masters and PhD studies.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • a) Applicants must have the nationality Andorran. They cannot apply for the scholarship to citizens of the United States, nor persons who have the right to citizenship or reside in the United States. All candidates must meet the requirements to apply for a J-1 visa. For more information on the J-1 visa, see the following website: https://es.usembassy.gov/es/.
  • b) Applicants must have at least one official higher education qualification, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent recognized by the Andorran authorities.
  • c) Applicants must have very good written and spoken knowledge of the English language at the time of formalizing the demand. People who apply for this scholarship must present a certified photocopy of the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). As a guide, it is considered adequate to a minimum score between 96 and 100 according to the career applicants want to pursue.   • d) Applicants who aspire to a master’s degree in business management (MBA) or one of the programs of management that require passing the exam Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) must present a certified photocopy of the Graduate Management Admission results from the Test (GMAT). Apart from this requirement, applicants must also demonstrate that they have experience minimum professional of three years, which has to be documented.
  • e) The scholarship is for postgraduate studies in any academic discipline. However, for study projects that include clinical practices, Medical graduates, surgery, veterinary, or dental-only can apply for a scholarship to carry out research projects without internships in these fields.

Candidates who finish their studies in July 2023 can apply by the deadline, but they will have to present proof of title and academic certification before September 1, 2023. All applications will be evaluated in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The study project
  • The future projection of the project in the Principality of Andorra
  • Academic merits
  • Professional experience
  • Letters of recommendation

Offered Benefits

The financing is established for a maximum of twenty-four months. The people selected to study for the doctorate maintain the status of Fulbright scholars for purposes of legal and insurance for a maximum period of five years.

The scholarship includes:

  • The amount of $1,700 in consideration of round trip expenses from Andorra to Basis of the Call for Fulbright Scholarships at the place of destination, at the beginning and the end of the academic year
  • A monthly allocation of between 1,600 and 2,400 dollars in accommodation expenses and maintenance. The amount will be determined as a function of the destination city.
  • A maximum of 36,000 dollars to cover the registration fees and mandatory fees of the university. The amount will be fixed depending on the destination university and in accordance with the objectives of authorized academics.
  • The amount of $1,800 to buy books and to cover extraordinary expenses of the establishment.

Fulbright Scholars participate in a program of official exchange between the two countries. For this one reason, they have the help of the Bilateral Committee and of the managing bodies in the United States, which of the following services are offered free of charge:

  • The procedures for access to American universities, the management and administration of the scholarship.
  • Orientation sessions before leaving the Principality of Andorra, which are carried out together with the Fulbright scholars of the Spanish State.
  • Support and advice services through the network of regional offices in the United States during the entire period the scholarship lasts.
  • f) Participation in seminars and invitations to cultural, scientific events, etc., organized by Fulbright Program.
  • An insurance policy for illness accidents with $100,000 coverage.
  • Issuance of the necessary documentation to obtain the Exchange Visitors (J-1) visa for the scholarship holder and the corresponding visas for the relatives to accompany him.
  • Compulsory participation in a pre-academic course of summer at an American university, paid for by the Fulbright Bilateral Committee.

Duration of the scholarships

  • The scholarship duration is one academic year according to the calendar of the chosen university (from ten to twelve months).
  • The scholarship will be renewed for a second academic year if it is shown to be progressing adequately.
  • Scholars must join the university in the summer or fall of 2023.

  • How to Apply: Applicants must download the application form and submit all the required documents in PDF format to the email address fulbrightandorra[at]govern.ad.
  • Supporting Documents: The application must be accompanied by the following (if the documents are not originals, certified copies must be submitted):
  • a) A document in which the applicants set out to write, in Catalan and in English, the study project they want to carry out United States. This document must have a maximum extension of five sheets of DIN A4 size. The project must follow the following scheme:
  • Objective: description of the project, of the specialty chosen, and of the academic degree to which they aspire
  • Importance: explanation of the importance of the project in its field and in development personal and professional of the candidates. The applicants must state the reasons why they consider that their projects will have an impact positively in Andorra.
  • Motivation: applicants must explain why they want to study in the United States. They must also indicate three universities in which they could take the chosen studies and the reasons why they have chosen these centers, and they must order them in order of preference.
  • b) The curriculum vitae has written in Catalan and English.

  • g) Candidates for the master’s degree in business management (MBA) and similar management programs must deliver a certified photocopy of the results of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
  • Admission Requirements: In accordance with Qualified Law 29/2021, of 28 October, qualified data protection personnel, the candidates who sign the application, which refers to the bases of the Fulbright scholarships, grant express consent because their personal data are treated to execute this call correctly.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and certify the highest minimum score required by the universities they have chosen.
