The Fujiwara Scholarship is exclusively available to doctoral students at Keio University’s Graduate School of Science and Technology. It targets individuals with exceptional potential to become leading researchers whose work has an international impact in science and technology.

Fujiwara Scholarships in Japan for PhD Founded in 1858, Keio University is a private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Tokyo (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants). This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Fujisawa. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, Keio University is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Keio University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. The admission rate range is 0-10% making this Japanese higher education organization a most selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All countries
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects:  The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the Graduate School of Science and Technology
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria: • Enrolled or planning to enroll in a doctoral degree program at the Graduate School of Science and Technology in the 2026 academic year, with the period of enrollment not exceeding the standard duration (including the year of admission). • Excellent character and outstanding academic grades. • Recognized as having the qualities to become an outstanding researcher in the future. • Research activities conducted for the degree must have the potential to be highly regarded internationally. • Understand the purpose of the scholarship. • Note: Combination with AY 2026 internal scholarships or the Keio Engineering Foundation scholarship is not permitted. Receipt of other scholarships will be considered during selection.

1,000,000 yen annual scholarship for 1 year (from April 2026). • Invitation to award ceremony and commemorative party. • Opportunity to attend annual social gatherings with Mr. Yuzo Fujiwara and past recipients for networking and exchange even after graduation.

*All prescribed forms can be downloaded from the website of the Faculty of Science and Technology. Submit (2) as a PDF through the Google Form. Only submit transcripts of academic record for doctoral programs if completed coursework falls outside of “Graduate Research 2”. (3) and (4) must be submitted through an academic advisor. Academic advisors will be separately informed how to submit (3)
and (4) by the Office of Student Services.

Prescribed forms are available for download from the Faculty of Science and Technology website. Items (3) and (4) must be submitted by the academic advisor (instructions provided separately). Screening includes document review followed by an interview (tentative date: March 3, 2026) for shortlisted candidates. Results announced in late March 2026.
