To offer financial support to students academically affected by the war, the University of Bremen has established Financial Support Scholarships for students affected by the war in Ukraine for postgraduate education for the academic year 2022-2023.

All students from Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine that want to pursue their higher education and undertake doctoral studies in Germany can apply for this scholarship. This scholarship is exclusively set for such students and consists of a one-time at the time of residence or in the graduation phase for Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian students respectively. The award will likely be in support of the education costs incurred.

Financial Support Scholarships for Ukraine, Belarus and Russian Students in Germany for PhD Founded in 1971, Universität Bremen (University of Bremen) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the medium-sized city of Bremen (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Senatorin für Bildung und Wissenschaft, Bremen (Bremen Senator for Education and Science), Universität Bremen (UB) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Universität Bremen (UB) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian national students can apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Students can apply to undertake doctoral study programmes offered at the University of Bremen.

Offered Benefits

The selected students will be offered a tuition fee scholarship towards the undertaken postgraduate programme at the University of Bremen.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Students can apply for admission via the online application portal of the university. All eligible students will be considered automatically.
  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Proof of Ukrainian citizenship (passport)
  • Proof of Russian/ Belarusian Citizenship (passport)
  • Enrolment
  • Foreign nationals with non-German university entry qualifications (Bildungsausländer)
  • Residence status § 16 or § 18  AufenthG
  • Description of the financial emergency
  • Admission Requirements: Students must hold proof of matriculation or doctoral confirmation.
  • Language Requirement: The students must meet the language requirements of the programme or course they undertake at the University of Bremen.
